Why New Year’s Resolutions are even a “thing”
While New Year’s Resolutions can be traced back to before the Romans, they are considered to be the ones responsible for moving the tradition to January, which they did around 46 B.C. They did so to honor their God Janus, who could look into both the previous and new year. At this time ancient Romans promised to improve how they treated themselves and others in the coming year.
Fast-forward to today when we have New Year’s resolutions blasted all over social media and I’m left fuming. So many who have influence in the fitness industry have lost their way in being thoughtful to everyone’s situations, and have people setting health and fitness goals that are unkind to themselves and occasionally unrealistic. So that’s why I say: Dear fitness industry, I vote we do a little better- ya?!
Don’t make dieting goals excruciating on yourself
I don’t know about you – but my Instagram feed is flooded with posts talking about how to stick to your strict diet during the holidays. Or how to keep going with your “cut” while at family parties, etc. I want to shout from the rooftops to every human out there, to enjoy your holiday! Enjoy the special moments with the ones you love. Don’t let the stress of the fitness world rob you of your joy and your memories because you were too overwhelmed with your extreme diet or fitness routine. Healthy dieting is important to any fitness based resolution, but it doesn’t have to be a drag on your life.
